Byways & Highways Staff Member Progresses Work Place Travel Plan for Tolvaddon Energy Park as Part of Academic Project

11th June 2009

Further to Byways & Highways Ltd's appointment in the Travel Plan Coordinator role in May 2008, one of our consultants, Huw Gibbon, is in the process of completing a Work Place Travel Plan for the site as part of his Professional Certificate in Highways and Traffic Engineering via Nottingham Trent University.

As any existing employees and visitors of Tolvaddon Energy Park will be aware, the site currently has high parking numbers which results in indiscriminate parking within visibility splays and pedestrian walkways.

As part of the ongoing expansion of the site, there will be a number of opportunities for sustainable travel.  Aspects of the site coming forward include the following:

  • The extension of the access road to enable a through bus, pedestrian and cycle route.
  • Construction of additional parking to clear the existing access road of on-street parking to facilitate the above.
  • Phase Two of the Energy Park.
  • Outline application for Phases 3 and 4 and other aspects of the overall development plan.

The aim of the Tolvaddon Energy Park's Work Place Travel Plan is to raise awareness of both the sustainable travel opportunities of the site and general sustainable opportunities and incentives that are available to all.

When the project is complete, the resulting Travel Plan will incorporate all the current / future businesses on the site.  The travel habits of the site will be monitored in the future and ongoing updates and improvements to the Travel Plan will feature on the company's website.

To conclude, in Huw's own words, "The site has a clear issue regarding on-site parking.  The results of the travel survey indicated that there was a lack of awareness of the opportunities the site has for sustainable travel.  The Work Place Travel Plan will raise awareness of these and this will hopefully assist in reducing parking levels and travel costs for employees".
