As part of the Government's commitment for every community to have access to a Children's Centre by 2010, Byways & Highways have been working with local architects and contractors on behalf of Cornwall Council to address the transport aspect of the proposed centres.

Children's Centres are designed  to give families easy access to a range of services, including health advice and support, information about training and employment, help with finances and benefits and support in finding the right childcare provision.

Byways & Highways were asked to prepare Transport Statements, Travel Plans and Construction Management Plans to support the Children Centre's applications through the planning process.  These documents address the impact of the developments on the highway network, investigate any existing accident trends within the existing highway and assess the accessibility of the site to alternative modes of travel.

The centres that Byways & Highways were involved in at Perranporth Primary School, Bosvigo Primary School, Ludgvan Primary School, Tregony Primary School and St Columb Minor Primary School in Newquay have all gained planning permission.
