Traffic Signal Design
Traffic signal projects cover a wide range of schemes from simple Puffin Crossings, to fully signalised motorway roundabouts. Projects have been taken from feasibility to installation and have included small isolated junctions to the implementation and validation of SCOOT Urban Traffic Control systems and linked MOVA motorway interchanges.
Byways & Highways Ltd has the resources, expertise and experience to carry out the full range of traffic signal related projects such as:
- Modelling analysis of all types of traffic signal junction – isolated (LINSIG2) and network (TRANED2/TRANSYT12)
- Design of signalised junctions including large roundabouts
- Fixed time and SCOOT Urban Traffic Control systems (Peek and Siemens)
- MOVA Control Strategy
- Remote Monitoring
- Variable Message Signing
- Bus Priority and Emergency vehicle schemes
- Technical Audits of types traffic signal schemes
A clear understanding of the traffic control objective, coupled with a sound analysis of the collected data is vital to finding the right solution. Preparation of one or more draft layouts will give an early indication whether the site is physically capable and suitable for the introduction of traffic signal control, taking into account traffic flow demands, vulnerable road users and local transport policies and strategies.
We use the latest versions of industry standard traffic signal programs, TRANSYT/TRANED, FLOWROUND and LINSIG to carry out capacity assessments.
