Accident Investigation and Prevention (AIP) - Review of Casualty and Severity Reduction Schemes in Devon - March 2009

Byways & Highways Ltd has recently completed a commission for Devon County Council to produce its county-wide programme of Casualty and Severity Reduction Schemes being considered for implementation during 2009/2010.

Our input to this project involved working in close partnership with Devon County Council staff and utilising their systems and processes to:

• Obtain, collate and analyse recorded road traffic collision data;

• Carry out site visits to identify possible Safety Engineering intervention measures to mitigate recorded road traffic collisions; and

• Produce a list of Casualty and Severity Reduction Schemes, together with estimated construction costs, and predicted first year Economic Rates of Return on potential expenditure.

Stephen Sully, Principal Consultant, said "The acquisition of this commission, working in partnership with Devon County Council, has provided an additional opportunity for staff at Byways & Highways Ltd to engage with a major Local Authority in the South West and demonstrates our capabilities to contribute to Devon County's objectives for seeking to reduce road traffic collisions on its highways."
